The General Manager of The Milwaukee Bucks, Mr, John Hammond, paid a visit to Messmer High School last week as part of the ongoing ASSIST program. ASSIST stands for Active Seniors Supporting Influencing Students Transitioning. At the monthly meetings, students go to retirement homes and other places where members of the Bucks organization facilitate discussions on topics relevant to the students' future success. Mr. Hammond addressed the topic of overcoming adversity, and many of the seniors told touching stories of loss and triumph!
The players and seniors serve as role models and inspiration for our students relating their practical advice and life experiences. Earlier in the year, a discussion was led by point guard Keyon Dooling. Senior Shameka Moore says, "The stories they tell us are moving and we heard that much of overcoming adversity is about faith in God."
